Whitworth put up a tough fight against Lewis-Clark State College, but the Pirate bats came up dry in Lewiston, Idaho on Wednesday, April 16.

LCSC put up an early run the bottom of the first. After that they just played add-on, burying the Pirates one run at a time. Each zero put on the scoreboard for the Pirates meant one less inning to come back. In the end, a strong pitching performance from Whitworth’s freshman pitcher Nathan Johnson and junior pitcher John Hauck limited LCSC to just five runs. Unfortunately for them, they could not out-pitch the arms from Lewis-Clark, who held the Pirates off the board all game.

On Thursday, April 17, the Warriors posted back-to-back shut out pitching performances and shot down any of Whitworth’s hopes of a repeat win from earlier in the season.

LCSC, the No. 2-ranked team nationally in the NAIA have lost just four games all season - one game of which was to the Pirates.

After shutting out Whitworth on Wednesday, the LCSC pitching staff did a repeat job on Thursday. The pitching would not be as strong from the Pirates side, though, as they let up 14 runs at Whitworth’s Merkel Field to go down 14-0.

Whitworth remains 10-18 in the Northwest Conference but falls to 11-25 overall. They will play in Walla Walla against the conference-winless Whitman Missionaries April 26-27. There will be two doubleheaders played on respective days starting at noon.
