The Whitworth women's softball team missed out on an opportunity to climb back into the race for second place in the Northwest Conference, going down 17-3 and 6-4 on Saturday, April 19 against Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
Junior catcher Rachel Anderson hit a two-run home run to get Whitworth in the scoring column after falling behind 17-0 in the first game.
In the second game, Whitworth held a 3-1 advantage on sophomore shortstop Lacey Kerr, senior pitcher Jessie LaPlante and freshman infielder Josie Ball RBIs. Willamette stormed back to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth, though, to claim their second victory of the day.
The two teams will take the field again on Sunday starting at noon.
